Advice and support
Retained
contract
If you are
not in a position to employ full time health and safety support
then we are able to act as your health and safety professional
to enable you to comply with regulation 7 of The Management of
Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. You can use our name
on contracts and quality submissions. If you have professionals
in place then we are in a position to provide a support function
to them.
As part of this retainer we will meet with you annually to
discuss progress and decide on further action. We will:

provide an on-call facility for
health and safety advice which could be accessed by agreed
senior staff.

act as a sounding board for ideas and
initiatives, and support you with their delivery.

be available with immediate effect to
investigate accidents in the workplace and support senior
management during liaison with external enforcing bodies.

support the existing management team
in achieving high standards of risk management.

monitor changes in legislation and
provide a brief outline of the change.
Note: Detailed consultancy work, training
and auditing would be charged at a reduced daily rate.
Auditing and inspection
Health check audit This is designed to focus
on the key health and safety issues that face businesses. It is an office based audit completed
in half a day. The purpose is to give a basic overview of health
and safety
compliance and it is the starting block for developing a health
and safety action plan. This audit is primarily aimed at small
businesses that do not currently operate a detailed health and
safety management system.
Compliance audit and inspection
This is a comprehensive and thorough audit that looks at all
aspects of health and safety management. It is aimed at small,
medium, and national companies. The audit can be delivered to
organisations with and without detailed management systems.
Generally it is completed in a day but this varies depending on
the size and scope of the business. It starts within the office
and extends to the operational areas.
Behavioural audit

This audit is based around the principles of
behavioural safety. It has been shown that over 90% of all accidents
are caused by unsafe acts or behaviour. The audit begins in the
workplace and involves informal discussions with employees, managers,
and directors. It then proceeds to examine how effective management
and employees interact and comply with systems and procedures.
The audit is tailored to assist you with the development of a
business improvement plan that will not only reduce accidents
within the workplace, but will also help you to improve your profitability. |

Tailored business audit and inspection If you do not feel that
any of the above audits are suitable for your organisation then
Safety Horizon have the expertise and
experience to work with you to develop an audit programme that
will fit in with your current situation. This customised audit
is designed to assist you with the development of a business improvement
plan that will not only reduce accidents within the workplace,
but will also help you to improve your profitability.
Consultancy
We
offer a full consultancy service. We have access to professionals
in a wide range of fields that can look at individual health and
safety issues. We are able to develop, and assist with, the implementation
of health and safety management systems to ISO 18001 and HSG 65
standards. We also develop systems that are integrated with environmental
and quality systems.
We also have access to consultants who specialise
in risk assessments and environmental training and assistance.

Risk assessment
Risk assessment is the foundation of good health
and safety management and performance. We have the expertise to
work with you to develop risk assessment in the following fields: Asbestos

Dust (including high silica)
Display Screen Equipment (including ergonomic assessments)

Food hygiene and safety
Manual Handling
Site specific assessments on individual tasks
Training
The competence of all employees from the shop
floor to the Managing Director is of paramount importance. We
offer interactive training programmes to enhance your business performance
along with accredited courses. Our training can be based at your
workplace or within a comfortable external environment.

used as evidence for NVQ portfolios. Click

Post-graduate training for, and recruitment
of, health and safety professionals
We are able to assist health and safety professionals
to become eligible for IOSH membership via a series of post-graduate
qualifications at certificate, diploma and MSc level through the
University of Strathclyde. We also provide personal tuition for
NEBOSH exams.
When vacancies arise in your organisation we are able to interview
and subsequently recommend health and safety professionals to
enhance your current risk management team.
Accident support and investigation
If you have had an accident in the workplace
then you may need assistance with accident investigations, witness
statements, and interaction with the HSE.
We have experience in dealing with a full range of incidents from
near hit investigation to fatal accident inquiries. We provide a
detailed report following any investigation carried out.
